Bidding war breaks out between HP and Dell for 3Par
HP has put in an offer to buy 3Par for $1.6 billion, topping Dell's bid made last week. Dell recently made the offer of $1.15 billion for the storage vendor. HP said its cash offer is 33% higher than Dell's.

AFCOM releases cloud recommendations paper
Data centre association AFCOM has released a paper by the Data Centre Institute, entitled "Guiding Data Centres to Cloud Computing." The paper includes recommendations that businesses should consider before moving to public, private or hybrid cloud computing. Aimed at data centre and facilities management professionals, the paper aims to help give a better understanding as to whether a business is well suited and ready to migrate to the cloud or not.

New CTO for AMD
AMD has announced a new CTO in the form of Donald Newell, a former Intel engineer. His new role is to oversee the long-term server roadmap and collaborate with other AMD design engineers to design new platforms.

Ethernet switching and routing revenue on the rise
Ethernet switching and Ethernet routing global revenue is on the rise, according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Networks Tracker. For Q2, the Ethernet switching market saw growth of 32.7% and Ethernet routing saw an 11% growth, year-on-year. According to the report, service provider router revenue accounts for 73.9% of the router market, which includes both core and edge routers.

Happy 15th birthday, Brocade
August 22 saw Brocade Communications Systems celebrate its 15th birthday. Over the past 15 years, the networking vendor claims to have launched such items as the first Gigabit Ethernet Switch. Today, Brocade offers storage, IP and converged networking solutions.
