VM backup down as a priority while disaster recovery still tops to-do lists

VM backup: Probably just easier to achieve than disaster recovery

So, virtual server backup looks increasingly like “job done” while disaster recovery retains its momentum. What’s driving these trends? Firstly, there is compliance, which is top IT priority in 2015 for 31% of those questioned and is clearly a driver for disaster recovery and backup. Then there is datacentre consolidation – a catch-all for server virtualisation and related storage and backup tasks – which is third highest priority in terms of 2015 projects (29%). It’s possible that as server virtualisation has swept UK datacentres organisations have revamped backup systems as a part of that process. Meanwhile, disaster recovery to current best practice – over two sites, utilising the new features available in hypervisor platforms, such as VMware’s SRM, for example – has taken longer to achieve.
