Vacancies for permanent IT directors saw a sharp rise in April 2013, according to IT recruitment consultant Computer People.

The company’s IT Monitor report for April revealed a 53% rise in permanent director roles, compared with March. The only other increase above 10% was for software engineer roles (14.4%).

On average, permanent vacancies rose 6.6% on March, across all 16 sectors covered by the consultancy’s survey. This figure was 1.4% year on year.

There was a small drop in demand for contract positions for April – a 1% drop on the previous month. Contract roles saw a 17.4% drop in roles year on year, which Computer People put down to companies feeling increasingly confident about their long-term business projects.

The only area to show increased demand year on year for contract vacancies was application analysts, at 1.9%.
