Online accounting services provider Twinfield has created an iPhone application that will enable users to automatically record time and mileage. Available as a free download from the Apple AppStore, the app uses global positioning to track mileage.

Twinfield specialises in online accounting software. Its software processes 80,000 accounts per year across 22 countries.

The company says the app will improve the speed with which invoices can be sent by automatically filing expenses claims.

One user of the app, Ralf de Graaf, owner of Collate Consultancy, said: "The Twinfield application will turn my time-recording and the submission of my expenses claims into something that I can quickly and easily do between appointments."

Accountancy firm Wansink & Partner is also a user.

Keeping on top of accounts while on the move

Online expenses and accounting seem a good fit for smartphones. Several companies specialising in cloud-based accounting software now offer Android and iPhone apps to enable users to process accounts when they are not at their desk.

While Twinfield offers a time and mileage recorder, an alternative app from E-conomic uses the smartphone's camera to scan bills. According to the company's blog, more than 14,000 people have downloaded the iPhone version of the app.
