Sophos releases enterprise firewall

Sophos has unveiled its first enterprise firewall solution, as part of a new security suite.

The Sophos Endpoint Security package also includes anti-virus and anti-spam protection, along with an adware blocker too.

The Sophos Client Firewall included is based on a personal firewall designed for consumers, which Sophos previously acquired.

Sophos Endpoint Security features Sophos Anti-Virus 6.0, which has been enhanced to protect Windows systems against adware and potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), as well as viruses and spyware.

The adware feature is designed to prevent pop-up ads and stop file-sharing programs such as Kazaa and Gator running in a business environment.

IDC analyst Brian Burke said, “With the rise of blended threats, there is an increasing need for integration between individual endpoint security components in order to reduce the cost and time associated with managing point products.

Sophos Endpoint Security also supports Cisco's Network Admission Control system. This system allows businesses to set rules that only grant computers access to the network when they have up-to-date anti-virus software.
