Ellison vows to support PeopleSoft

Arif Mohamed
Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison said last week that if Oracle and PeopleSoft were to merge, Oracle would "over-support PeopleSoft users" and release version 9.0 of PeopleSoft's applications.

Oracle would begin work on "a functionality-merged set of products" that would combine elements of both PeopleSoft and Oracle to rival SAP, said Ellison.

Oracle would provide a "graceful" upgrade path for users of both companies' applications. However, Ellison added that no further PeopleSoft applications would be produced after PeopleSoft 9.0, because engineers would be working on future versions of Oracle applications.
