Firms should help police fight IT crime

As firms try to protect their SQL servers against the Slammer worm IT managers have called for businesses to give greater support to the police in the fight against cybercrime.

Two in three (65%) of those surveyed in this week's Computer Weekly/Harvey Nash Big Question poll said firms could do more to help the police in gathering evidence to prosecute cases of cybercrime more successfully.

Last week Simon Vallor, a 22-year-old web designer and part-time DJ, received a two-year jail sentence for writing and distributing computer viruses.
