HP has strengthened its relationship with Microsoft by winning a contract to supply centralised technical support to 61,000 Microsoft staff, vendors and contractors around the world.

HP will provide technical support for Microsoft in up to 68 countries in a multi-year, multimillion dollar contract.

The new deal marks a significant extension of HP's existing contract Microsoft and it will provide helpdesk call centre support to 11,000 Microsoft employees, vendors and contractors in 35 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

HP chief Carly Fiorina said that the merger with Compaq earlier this year would allow the new company to develop a services business to rival market leader IBM Global Services.

The agreement with Microsoft is one of the largest contracts in the merged HP Services division's portfolio.
