UK business is lagging behind the rest of the world in its
understanding of
service oriented architecture (SOA), according to an SAP user
group survey.
Over half (55%) of UK companies do not understand SOA or have no
plans to implement it, the survey found.
The SAP UK and Ireland User group and SAP User Group Executive
Network survey polled 147 members worldwide, including 31 in the
UK.
One third of organisations said they were using SOA, but only
13% of UK firms are actively using or preparing to use SOA.
Alan Bowling, chairman of the SAP UK and Ireland User Group,
said the lack of knowledge about SOA seems to be a UK
phenomenon.
"This needs to change, otherwise the UK risks being eclipsed by
business organisations in the US, India, China and the rest of
Europe," he said.
It is clear that many organisations need to be educated about
how to implement SOA and its potential benefits, said Bowling.
The SAP User Group will have a dedicated stream on SOA at its
annual conference taking place in London on 10 and 11 November.
