Barclays bank has launched an app for investment companies to give them access to content to support their investment decisions.
The Barclays Live app, which is available on the App Store, gives large institutional investors access to data, analytics and research from the bank.
“Clients are looking for the content that is most relevant to their investment decisions,” said Larry Kantor, head of research at Barclays. “[The app] for iPad allows clients to access the content they want, when they want it, by delivering market intelligence that is tailored to their specific needs.”
The institutional investment clients already use Barclays Live but the app will make its use more flexible.
The consumerisation of IT in the enterprise is a trend driving Barclays to provide tablet and mobile services. "The quality of mobile apps in the consumer space has raised the bar for enterprise apps,” said Valerie Monchi, head of research operations at Barclays.

“The app’s unique look and feel, and customisation options, will help clients to cut through the information deluge.”
Barclays’ retail operation in the UK is also harnessing tablet computing. It rolled out 8,500 Apple iPads across branches to improve interaction with customers.
It is also is to trial touchscreen devices in branches to add to its digital credentials following the deployment of wireless in its branches. The bank will soon introduce these multifunction touchscreen devices, with the capabilities of the behind-counter systems, to serve customers in branches.
