Visa Europe has completed the upgrade to its communications network, which will underpin its payments services and corporate connectivity.

The network, which is based on BT Connect, will also be managed by BT. Visa Europe migrated its transaction network onto BT's £10bn IP-based 21st Century Network in 2008 as part of a five-year managed service.

The new network, which is part of another five-year deal, connects Visa Europe’s card authorisation, clearing and settlement services as well as 350 members in 37 countries. Visa’s debit and credit card platform processed more than 14.3 billion transactions worth over €1tn in the year until June 2012.

Visa Europe’s offices will be connected and staff will benefit from remote working, mobile services, messaging and video conferencing tools.

Visa Europe CIO Steve Chambers said: “BT’s expansive global network supports our international connectivity needs and their focus on innovative technology and services aligns with our strategy.”

The managed service also includes IP telephony and unified communications tools; managed mobile support and remote access to the corporate network via broadband and 3G; and innovation through BT Research into future services.
