Amazon is offering free usage of Amazon Web Services for Microsoft Windows Server applications within the AWS Free Usage Tier. The initiative is designed to help new AWS users get started in the cloud.
The offer allows developers and businesses with Windows Server applications to run 750 hours of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) Micro Instance usage per month, at no charge for a one-year period.
Amazon said the free cloud service will give new users hands-on experience with AWS.
Peter De Santis, general manager of Amazon EC2, said: “Through our continued work with Microsoft, Windows developers now have an opportunity to see, at no cost, how they can leverage Amazon Web Services’ scalable and cost-effective computing environment.”
Organisations using Windows Server on AWS include the US Treasury Department, which moved its SharePoint 2010 powered Treasury.gov website onto the Amazon cloud to comply with the Federal Cloud First Initiative.
