Online estate agent Rightmove, one of the UK's 10 most-visited websites, has moved to speed up searches as traffic on the site reached 120 queries per second.

The company is using an Exalead one:enterprise system in an attempt to make its 350 million annual visitors hurry their way around the million or so properties on its database. The company fears that technological barriers could compromise its trading.

People should not be surprised that an estate agent is one of the top UK web brands.

"The British public has embraced the internet as the best and fastest way of researching the marketplace and looking for a home," he said. "It is not economic to continue with our in-house search solution given our incredible traffic growth," he said.

Exalead one:enterprise 4.5 was chosen as it supports more than 320 file formats, including native support for Microsoft Office 2007.

In estate agent's parlance, it gives fast access to prime locations, and is conveniently situated right at the heart of the database, offering superb views of all the picture files and with excellent transport links to the internet, according to Exalead managing director, Raymond Bentinck.
