3Com has expanded its enterprise network switch line, while at the same including new security features from the acquired TippingPoint business.
It is also to build converged networks technology into its products as a result of the expanded joint venture 3Com has with China’s Huawei.
The new switch options include the 3Com Switch 5500 family with both 10/100 and Gigabit variants, and the expanded 3Com Switch 7700 family which delivers advanced Power over Ethernet options.
There is also the new 3Com TippingPoint Quarantine Protection switch security offering to extend security control over network endpoints, without having to deploy client software or make changes to endpoint devices; and the 3Com Enterprise Management System (EMS) to enable large-scale network change control and configuration management.
"New applications and services such as voice over IP (VoIP) are running over the same data network that is currently plagued with security threats. These new services and applications require quality of service and security for successful adoption," said Jon Oltsik, an analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group.
"3Com is adapting its solutions by automating security so that it works with the infrastructure to create an intelligent network, and developing infrastructure solutions ideal for the performance demands of VoIP and high-speed networks," said Oltsik.
