Cisco Systems saw sales jump 12.3% to £3.38bn for the second quarter, helped by sales of IP phones and wireless local area network equipment.

Net profits nudged up to £833m compared with £722m for the same quarter year earlier, for the quarter ending 29 January.

Cisco said its strategy of branching out from its traditional router business was continuing to work, with overall turnover helped by the sale of IP phones and wireless Lan equipment.

During the second quarter Cisco acquired wireless Lan hardware company Airespace and announced a development strategy with Fujitsu to build a new generation of high-end routers.
