Frugal users are now in a position to start spending their IT budget, according to a leading IT expert.

Butler Group predicts that during 2004 users will get their enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management software and IT integration strategies back on-track.

This will be followed by a big up-take in the use of analytics and business intelligence.

Butler group president Martin Butler said, "People will try to extract more value from ERP, CRM, business intelligence and portal software."

He predicted that users would start addressing the problem of integrating their big IT systems with their legacy systems, some of which can date back over 20 years. "Users are desperate to extract value from the business."

IT spending on business intelligence would be huge, he said, as users developed IT to provide them with a full view of the business.
