A new organisation formed to help companies find the right mobile technologies for their business made its debut at CeBIT.

The Mobile Enterprise Alliance, which was formed earlier this year, will operate through a web portal that offers users case studies, technical information, product information and compatibility advice on mobile devices, networks and back-end servers.

The alliance has the backing of more than 100 suppliers, including Ericsson, Citrix, Symbian, Inmarsat, Symbol and Palm. The organisation is planning to address user trade bodies and conferences to promote its site.

Roger Baskerville, European director of business markets at Palm, said, "Usually, only the really clever users in the business market easily manage to get their e-mail onto their mobile devices, so businesses need greater support to make sure their employees have fewer problems."

The portal is free to use and is technology-independent, meaning that no suppliers or solutions are locked out.
