Over two thirds of IT managers say staff do not understand the law governing e-mail monitoring.

The Data Protection Commissioner recently launched a draft code of practice to guide businesses on how they can legally monitor staff e-mail under the Data Protection Act. The CBI said the code added to the confusion on the issue, after Government statements said routine monitoring of e-mail is legal under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act. Sixty-eight per cent of IT managers confirm this confusion, saying their staff don't understand the law.
