Online searching facilities have been added to the BCS Consultancy Register, making it simpler for organisations to find the right professional among the 70-plus currently presenting their experience and skills.

The register can be searched according to factors such as application area and skills, a facility expected to increase its appeal to both professional consultants and clients.

The number of visits to the register at BCS consult has grown steadily since it went live 18 months ago and is now increasing quickly. There was 70% growth between August and November last year to almost 770 hits.

Consultants provide information for the register in standard form, but they can also include links to their own Web sites.

Standards are ensured by the fact that applicants have to be in the professional membership grades and fulfil certain criteria concerning issues such as length of experience.

Applicants supply details of their last three employers and of their experience and training. In addition, the society points out that as BCS members people on the registers must abide by the BCS code of conduct and code of practice, thus giving organisations using their services built-in reassurance of their professionalism.

Members can join the register by completing an online form at the site. There is an annual fee of £100.

Human-computer interaction consultants

A Web site listing consultants in human-computer interaction can now be searched. It will enable companies seeking design help to get in touch with specialists.

The site is managed by BCS group the British HCI Group. The list is complemented by other free information and Web links. Consultants interested in getting listed free of charge must be members of the group. A membership form is on the site.
