The alliance should help IT departments to create applications that enable staff to connect more easily with central databases. It will also give companies a way to reach the growing number of wireless mobile computer and smart phone users with their e-commerce services.
"Industry research has shown the wireless data services market to be growing at an exponential rate, particularly in Europe where the carriers are most advanced," says Denise Lahey, vice president of Oracle's mobile products division.
The two companies expect this sector to be increasingly important as larger numbers of Internet users make use of portable electronic devices to access the Internet rather than through desktop PCs. The focus will be on setting up portals for telecommunications companies.
