The Defectives: new group aims to link up bug hunters

Software testers now have their very own community, the Defectives, set up by software testing consultancy ROQ IT.

Toby Sinclair, a consultant at ROQ IT, said, "As a passionate testing professional, I feel there is a real need for this type of community. There is very little opportunity to meet other testing people outside of the workplace, yet there is so much to gain by sharing ideas and experiences. We are confident that the events provide a great opportunity for everyone, at whatever level of their career (student, tester, test manager or project manager).

The Defectives is hosting an event on 15 February, where budding defectives can test their bug tracking skills against the clock.

Yeah, right. Software testing have their communities, and had long before "Defectives" (I'm personally slightly offended by the name).

Association for Software Testing is one of the most innovative, and its CAST is one of the best testing conferences.

Ministry of Testing (UK based) is younger but also awesome, so its TestBash conference.

Nothing really new here. We have been doing the same thing with message boards and forums for decades. We find a problem, post it and see if other have as well. The address and fix the problem. We just did not do it in a room as a group.

Albert beat me to this one, AST, SoftwareTestPros and STAR all had their own 'niche' name or testers.  There are plenty of groups around the world.

I’m with @Albert - I’m a little put-off by the name. I get the play on words, but how about something a little more positive, like The Effectives?
