The travel agent, which specialises in travel for students and young people, said Azzurri's managed service will link 450 retail outlets, call centres and business partners across 85 countries and provide instant access to information, such as flight schedules and travel data.
STA Travel CIO Andy Mills said, "A robust, flexible and scaleable global network to underpin this information flow is vital to STA Travel's business success."
The Wan contract also forms part of the company's plan to run a centralised technology strategy, with UK-hosted business applications, such as financial management software, being rolled out globally over Azzurri's network.
STA Travel said the partnership will also provide access to new technologies and service terms.
"We have just completed an upgrade to our core network with a new internet superstructure and enhanced firewalls. If we were tied to a global carrier contract we would not have this level of flexibility," said Mills.
