A degree in social media has been launched at Birmingham City University.
The masters degree, the university says, "engages with changes in the nature of public and private communications networks", by learning about the technology that has "radically altered the traditional media".
The course enables students to learn about the political economy of social media, the communication activities of the people who go online, and the way new media businesses are responding. It is aimed at journalists and PR professionals.
Tim Wall, deputy head of Birmingham City University's School of Media said, "Social media, built around new technologies, are some of the most profound changes happening to the media at the moment."
