IBM has launched a blade server system that can be easily deployed by small firms in office environments.

The new BladeCenter S system comes with an "Office Ready Kit" designed to help optimise the platform to run in an office environment, cutting noise as well as power consumption.

IBM said the Office Ready Kit will enable clients to reduce energy use by up to 25%, cut noise in the office by as much as half, and enable them to run BladeCenter S desk-side, helping to maximise space in the front office.

The Office Ready Kit for BladeCenter S drives efficiency through built-in air filters that help block dust, a noise attenuator that muffles sound exiting the system, and extra space for future growth built-in.

IBM claims the Kit enables its blade to run much quieter than equivalent systems from HP.
