Juniper pluggable modules improve Netscreen firewall and VPN systems

Juniper Networks has improved the performance and scalability of its high-end Juniper Networks Netscreen-5000 Series Firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems.

Two new hardware modules – the 8G2 and 2XGE Secure Port Modules – provide the Netscreen-5000 Series Firewall/VPN systems with advanced networking features and increased data throughput.

With the modules, the NetScreen-5000 Series Firewall/VPN delivers up to 30Gbps (gigabits per second) data throughput in high-end firewall mode and 15Gbps in VPN mode.

Juniper said the modules were designed to support bandwidth intensive and latency sensitive technologies like voice over IP, real-time streaming technology and data replication services, without adversely affecting the integrity or performance throughput of the network.

The hardware pluggable modules allow existing Netscreen-5000 Series customers to easily upgrade their Firewall/VPN deployments, while protecting the investment they have already made in their infrastructure, said Juniper.
