XM Satellite Radio goes online with Akamai

Akamai Technologies has been named lead provider of internet streaming services for XM Radio Online.

XM Satellite Radio has a satellite radio audience of more than 3.77 million subscribers. Earlier this month, it began offering XM Radio Online to all XM subscribers as part of its basic subscription plan.

“Akamai’s on-demand platform has been critical to delivering a high-quality streaming music service for XM’s subscribers,” said Hugh Panero, CEO of XM Satellite Radio. “By offering XM subscribers the ability to listen to our programming at their computers, we are using the internet to add tremendous value to our basic service.”

Akamai streaming allows XM to support its brand, e-business and marketing investments.

Akamai is a leading service provider for accelerating content and business processes online.
