Hanson, the supplier of heavy building materials, is building a new £11m international wide area network.

The new voice and data network is designed to increase productivity across the group and will be built over the next five years.

The network will use leased IP circuits from BT, Cisco routers and a Mitel voice gateway solution, which will integrate into existing Mitel, Avaya and BT phone systems.

Hanson has awarded MiSpace, a company within the MiTech Group, a managed service contract to help run the system. MiSpace is organising the network service provision and using MiTech to deliver the projects and support them.

MiSpace will oversee installation of the network and manage and support it. Hanson will still maintain an in-house network support team in conjunction with MiSpace.

Simon Lewis, Hanson UK IT infrastructure director, said, "We chose MiSpace and MiTech as independent suppliers, able to work with various different manufacturers of hardware and software, as well as BT, to manage the entire project."
