College boosts network security

Antony Savvas

Northampton College is protecting itself against internet security threats with an all-in-one e-mail scanning and web protection appliance from Network Box.

The security solution is protecting the data of 14,000 students and over 500 staff. “The installation of the Network Box was quick and simple and we are pleased with its cost-effective results,” said Richard Garbutt, Northampton College IT support manager.

The appliance’s features include anti-virus capabilities, including unzipping attachments and the ability to scan downloads. The content filtering capability of the box is provided by SurfControl, and the box's anti-spam solution detects all rogue e-mails.

As soon as an appliance update is available from Network Box, for example to combat the latest viruses or worms, it is automatically “pushed” to the appliance over the web, so reducing the necessary management of the appliance, said Garbutt.
