IBM will release free evaluation kits for its software products.

The PowerPack evaluation kits give users a chance to try out IBM software packages based on development roles within an organisation, such as IT project manager, architect and developer.

Tools featured include Rational products, Domino, DB2 and WebSphere software.

The kits are intended to provide hands-on experience with what IBM is calling the IBM Software Development Platform, which was announced last year as a team-based approach to development.

Users get 90-day evaluation licences as part of the PowerPacks, which are being made available as part of the company's developerWorks programme.

The company later this month plans live webcasts relating to software development.

Further information on IBM's PowerPacks can be found at ibm.com/developerWorks/platform.
