Symbian to let users view Microsoft files

Antony Savvas

Symbian has gone into partnership with Infomatrix to allow its Epoc operating system users to edit and view Microsoft Office e-mail attachments, including Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets, writes Antony Savvas.

Symbian will incorporate Infomatrix file format converters to allow working in mixed environments.

Nick Koiza, Infomatrix sales and marketing director, said, "This important partnership will be a significant contribution to mass market take-up of wireless information services. E-mail attachments are an essential component of wireless information, and the need for easy manipulation and forwarding is crucial," he added.

Symbian has already licensed its Epoc platform to Ericsson, Motorola, Matsushita, Nokia, Psion and Sony.
