The IT industry wants law enforcement agencies to confront computer criminals.

After the Love Bug attack, 74% of IT professionals surveyed for the Computer Weekly/Harvey Nash Big Question said they did not believe law enforcement agencies are taking computer crime seriously enough.

One respondent blamed the authorities "lack of technical expertise" for their lax approach to cybercrime.

Another said, "Generating viruses and hacking into computer systems is still seen by many in the establishment as 'harmless fun'. Perhaps it would be taken more seriously if it was considered the virtual equivalent of vandalism or destruction of property."
