Saudi Telecom to offer hosted datacentre services

Ian Grant

UK CIOs will soon be able to buy hosted datacentre services in Saudi Arabia following Saudi Telecom's (STC) decision to enter the hosting business with technology partners Cisco, VMware and EMC.

This is the first Vblock Infrastructure Package (VIP) win for Cisco in the Middle East. The package combines virtualisation, networking, processing and storage technologies from Cisco, EMC and VMware, with end-to-end vendor accountability.

Indian outsourcing firm and Cisco partner Wipro will run the datacentre.

The deal includes deployment of several Cisco Unified Computing products in STC's datacentre. These include the Unified Computing System chassis, blade servers, storage area network switches, EMC storage and back-up and VMware vSphere software.

No price details were disclosed.
