Network Rail appoints new CIO

Network Rail has announced the appointment of a new director of information management, Susan Cooklin.

Cooklin takes over from Catherine Doran, who has taken on the role of head of corporate development at the company.

Cooklin was previously head of IT delivery before moving into her new role. She joined the company in 2006 after 20 years in IT and operation roles in the financial services industry, most recently with Barclays Bank.

Cooklin worked with Doran on Network Rail's transformation programme. The work included the development of an "intelligent infrastructure", a network of sensors designed to predict when maintenance is needed.

The company piloted the infrastructure on the Edinburgh to Glasgow line in April this year.
