The first ever 20 domain names registered

As news breaks that the oldest domain name is sold, here is a list of the first 20 names to be registered, according to the forrester.

Symbolics.com was the first internet domain name, registeredon 15 March 1985 - nearly 25 years ago by a computer manufacturer.

More recognisable in the IT industry are some that followed shortly behind. DEC, which was bought by Compaq, which was subsequently bought by HP, registered dec.com in September 1985. It was the fifth domain registered.

Xerox managed to register xerox.com as early as January 1986, and became the 7th domain name.

HP, IBM, Sun and Intel all registered their domain names in March 1986, becoming the 9th, 11th, 12th and 13th names registered respectively.

Apple was a relative slowcoach,being the 64th toregisterdomain name apple.com almost a year later in February 1987

200 million domain names have been registered since Symbolics.com.

17. tek.com - 08/05/1986

18. fmc.com - 10/07/1986
