Trusteer debuts no-software malware protection

Secure web access firm Trusteer has announced a web login and transaction monitoring service to detect malware without installing software.

Secure web access firm Trusteer has announced a web login and transaction monitoring service to detect malware without installing software.

Dubbed Pinpoint, the service is aimed at enabling online service providers to protect against fraud or data theft by detecting threats on a customer's machine before allowing them to sign-in or execute transactions.

"Layered security is the best approach to help protect against malware-related fraud," said Matthew Harper, group vice-president of client authentication at SunTrust Banks.

The service works in conjunction with Trusteer Rapport, which can be downloaded to secure infected computers and remove the malware.

"The combination of Pinpoint with Rapport can provide two different layers of protection for our Online Treasury Manager clients," said Matthew Harper.

Pinpoint uses intelligence from malware command and control servers to detect behaviours associated with infected computers. Trusteer claims an 80% detection rate and zero false positives.

Pinpoint uses a cloud service to perform the assessment of machines that request Trusteer protected web pages.

Online service providers can configure Pinpoint to support both manual and automated responses to malware attacks.

"Web fraud prevention is a three legged stool that combines detection, protection, and remediation," said Yaron Dycian, vice president of products for Trusteer.

With the release of Pinpoint, organisations can deploy multi-layer protection that covers their entire customer base and generates real-time information about malware that can be used to block fraud attempts, he said.
