Verizon Businesshas launched a service to help
businesses reduce the risk of not knowing where all their data
resides.
The Data Discovery, Identification and Security Classification
(DDISC) service is available in Europe, North America and
Asia-Pacific.
According to Verizon Business, the service is aimed at helping
businesses to discover, identify and classify data stored on
servers in the extended network linking customers, partners and
suppliers.
This information is used to determine whether a company is
handling and securing its data appropriately.
Irida Xheneti, security services research analyst at IDC, said
as corporate and customer information has become a critical asset,
securing the path this information travels is critical for many
businesses.
But he said, "Organisations are struggling to even locate where
the information resides and then prioritise it accordingly."
Verizon said the service is also aimed at helping organisations
manage compliance with security standards and regulations such as
the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
The service consolidates and standardises Verizon Business's
security consulting services to ensure uniformity across its global
security practice, the firm said.
The service represents an industry shift to a more data-centric
approach to security that emphasises the business value of
information and its potential impact on the organisation, said
Peter Tippett, vice-president of innovation and technology at
Verizon Business.
