PayPal and its owner eBay have announced a link-up with
Google's Gmail webmail service to protect consumers against
fraudulent e-mails and phishing attacks.
Gmail account holders will receive fewer fake e-mails claiming
to be sent by eBay and PayPal.
DomainKeys and DomainKeys Identified Mail e-mail authentication
technology allows Google to prevent the delivery to Gmail
inboxes of messages fraudulently claiming to be from eBay and
PayPal.
Garreth Griffith, head of risk management at PayPal UK, said,
"The Gmail team's decision to work with eBay and PayPal on this
issue is a significant step forward in our fight to keep consumers
safe from phishing and cybercrime.
"Today's announcement will enhance online safety for millions of
eBay and PayPal customers who use Gmail."
DomainKeys technology adds another layer to spam and phishing
protection by allowing internet service providers to determine if
messages are real and whether they should be delivered to a
customer's inbox.
