Google hit with £500m lawsuit over Gmail copy claims
Start-up LimitNone has filed a lawsuit against Google for alleged deceptive business practices and trade secret infringement.
LimitOne alleges that Google's business software unit copied its software tool to migrate customers from Microsoft Outlook to its own Gmail system.
LimitNone entered into a confidentiality agreement with Google in March 2007, after it started to develop a tool called gMove that migrated e-mail, address books and calendars from Outlook to Gmail.
Google then introduced its own free e-mail migration tool called Google E-mail Uploader, which LimitNone claims, in its legal action, is identical to gMove.
LimitOne claims Google has cost it around £477m in potential lost business as a result of the alleged breach.
The complaint has been filed in an Illinois court.
