Manchester Airportis lifting its "one
item of hand baggage" rule with the help of the OracleBusiness Intelligenceplatform.
The airport has been granted permission by the Department for
Transport (DFT) to lift the one item of hand baggage regulation
from today.
It will be one of the first to relax security restrictions on
the number of hand baggage items passengers are allowed to carry.
The restriction, affecting all airports, had been in place since
August 2006.
Airports have been able to apply for permission to lift the
one-bag rule if they are able to demonstrate that passenger
movements would not be affected by extra baggage and security
checks.
Oracle's business intelligence system provides Manchester
Airport's management team with interactive dashboards of flight,
passenger and baggage movements.
The forecasting capabilities provided by Oracle business
intelligence gives Manchester Airport the ability to cope with the
extra pressure of screening additional bags by helping senior
management identify future trends and to plan accordingly.
With this information, management can plan ahead with additional
X-ray machines and extra staff weeks in advance.
