Fifty per cent of UK businesses that have
evaluated open source are using it in
business-critical areas, but concerns about the availability of
services remain a major hurdle, according to Forrester
Research.
A survey of 500 IT decision makers by
Forrester found that 51% of firms using open source are
using it in mission-critical applications.
Michael Goulde, senior analyst at Forrester, said, "The finding
is good news since a few years ago open source was being used only
for basic applications."
The perceived risk around open source is its lack of services,
with 74% of those interviewed voicing concerns over services for
integration, consulting and support.
