Novell announced several new European, US and global
businesses running its Linux and open source range of enterprise
software at the Brainshare conference last week.
One of the new users is Girosol, a US-based financial services
firm that provides national and international wire money transfer
services.
Girosol has implemented the
Novell Open
Workgroup Suite, a Linux-based suite of server and desktop
components, which has management and collaboration tools and
Openoffice productivity software.
Omar Cassola, chief executive at Girosol, said, "Our direction
is to migrate all of our systems and desktops to SuSE Linux
Enterprise, and with Novell's suite, we can do it at our own
pace."
Other new users include US manufacturing management firm Hines,
the Oregon Department of Human Services, the City of Norrköping in
Sweden and the City of Detroit.
Roger Eriksson, IT strategy manager for the City of Norrköping,
said, "The Novell software is helping to make our IT environment
more efficient while we provide a better service to our citizens.
We have moved every application we can to Linux servers from
Windows, and the increase in uptime is a boon to IT staff,
employees and citizens."
Earlier this month, Novell announced that EBS Building Society
in Ireland had deployed Novell's SuSE Linux Enterprise Server in
its mainframe environment to host IBM's Websphere applications.
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server will support more than 1,000 users
within EBS, which has branches throughout Ireland.
