Concerns that dependence on e-mail is weakening the ability to communicate face to face have led the BCS Young Professionals Group to launch a series of masterclasses on personal networking, body language, presentation and communication.

BCS chief executive David Clarke said such workshops were needed to raise standards. "It is uncommon for companies to send IT staff on courses to address non-IT skills, but it is essential if we are to improve the professionalism and reputation of the industry," he said.

The events are open to BCS members and non-members - members get a discount.
