Cisco is relaunching the Managed Services Programme with the aim of making it available to a wider range of resellers.
The first iteration got its start in 2007 and was pitched at partners who invested heavily in Network Operations Centres (NOCs). Cisco now claims it is time to take managed services mainstream, saying there is a potential $42bn market out there.
"Almost 80% of you have some kind of managed services operation today, but less than 10% of you are using our managed services channel programme," said Cisco channel head Keith Goodwin
Goodwin said partners had been wont to claim the barriers of entry to the Cisco programme were too high, the programme was complex and had been hard to transact business through it.
"Our next gen managed services channel programme will lower the barriers, so you no longer need a full NOC. It will make it easier to transact and to make money, and we are introducing the Master category for the highest level of managed services."
A key part of the new programme will be a new tier allowing partners that can't afford or don't have the inclination to kit out a NOC to provide white-label services in collaboration with other partners.
Dimension Data European head Russell Bolan added: "Collaboration between partners will become even more important because right now, we all want the best solution at the best price."
Cisco senior director of worldwide channel marketing, Surinder Brar, forecast that around 80% of Gold and Silver partners will now get involved in the programme.
