The application, which is called Morrisons Supplier Database (MSD), gives the suppliers daily updates on their sales and stock. The platform will be expanded over time to become Morrisons’ principal means of communication with its suppliers.
The supermarket group’s supplier information manager, John Lomas, said, “The development of MSD took place during an extremely busy time for the Morrisons business as it converted the Safeway store estate and consolidated the distribution and head office functions.
“MSD continues to be a major initiative within Morrisons and has represented a significant commitment in resource though development, implementation and ongoing infrastructure costs. MSD is delivering benefits to both Morrisons and its suppliers through greater collaborative contact and planning.”
The database sits on a hosted BT network and runs on IBM kit. The application was developed by systems integrator Crimsonwing.
