ITers build community links

John Riley
The election last week of IT industry heavyweight Peter Morgan as master of the livery company for IT, the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT), marks increased activity among IT professionals to help local communities.

Morgan, currently chairman of Baltimore Technologies, and formerly director of IBM UK and director general of the Institute of Directors, will launch two major new projects.

The WCIT is involved with other IT organisations to launch IT4Communities, which will encourage professionals to volunteer their skills for the benefit of local communities. It also plans to set up a long-term partnership with a London school.

"Such projects demonstrate the continued dynamism of the WCIT in providing a vehicle for members to give something back both to the profession and the wider community," said Morgan.
