Facebook has been awarded $711m in damages by a court in
California as a result of an anti-spam case against an online
marketer.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the federal court in
San Jose awarded the damages yesterday.
Facebook won a US federal
lawsuit ruling against 'spam king' Sanford Wallace and alleged
associates in March.
In the case, three men are alleged to have used the Facebook
network to target potential spamming victims and to have used their
identities and profiles to spread their marketing messages to
others using the site.
In May 2008, MySpace won a $234m judgement against Wallace and a
business partner for illegal spam and phishing attacks against
MySpace users.
