Computer Weekly campaigned for the Lords inquiry because of doubts over the cause of the accident. Evidence has come to light of potentially serious problems with safety-critical Fadec engine control software - the system fitted to Chinook ZD576, which crashed on the Mull killing all on board, including 25 senior police and intelligence officers.
Two RAF air marshals recorded a verdict that the pilots of Chinook ZD576, Rick Cook and Jonathan Tapper, were negligent. But the Lords voted last year to set up a select committee to consider whether that finding was justified. The committee's report will be published on 5 February.
