Nationwide has launched an app to provide customers with instant rewards and vouchers.
The Simple Rewards app, powered by Visa, allows customers to use location-based data to search for offers in their area and perform tasks based on the findings, such as booking seats at restaurants.
Chris Rhodes, Nationwide Executive Director of Group Retail, said vouchers and offers can greatly influence consumer behaviour, especially at this time of year.
The building society says research found 39% of people will shop around for a discount before making a purchase, and 83% say an offer will influence where they buy goods.
Research found 78% of people claim their buying decisions are influenced by deals, while just 4% of those asked are embarrassed to use a voucher or discount.
“The next few months can be an expensive time for families with the half-term holidays and Christmas fast approaching," said Rhodes. "With offers including money off weekly food shops, discounts on family days out, plus money off hotels, travel and holidays, both in the UK and in Europe, we believe we will have offers to suit most people.”
The Simply Rewards app is available for download on iOS and Android devices. Examples of offers available include two-for-one deals at Pizza Express and money off for Virgin Experience Days.
More on mobile payments
Other firms have also incorporated voucher and discount schemes into payment apps, including Visa, which recently announced it will expand its own V.me digital wallet into eight new regions by the end of 2014.
Earlier this week, large retailers, such as Sainsbury’s and House of Fraser, announced their support of mobile payments app Zapp, which does not offer vouchers, but provides a mobile wallet to allow payments through smartphones.
Other ventures, such as mobile payment platform Znap, combine both mobile payments with discount services to provide both initiatives in one application.
