Twitter acquires social network site Bagcheck

Social network site Bagcheck has been bought by Twitter for an undisclosed sum.

Social network site Bagcheck has been bought by Twitter for an undisclosed sum.

The site, where users discuss the contents of their "bag" or lists of items they are interested in, will remain under the same URL for the time being, the company said in a blog post.

The move follows Twitter's acquisition of London-based start-up Tweetdeck in May, thought to be worth about £25m. The microblogging site also recently acquired Google AdWords specialist company AdGrok and social media analysis start-up BackType.

Only one member of Bagcheck staff, Sam Pullara, will be joining the Twitter team. In his blog post Pullara said he was excited about the announcement.

Blog site The Next Web described the move as creating "a one-stop marketing platform where Twitter can encourage brands to interact, encourage users to interact with brands and still keep that 'genuine' feeling that Twitter users expect".
