IT outsourcer Mastek has announced a new 5,000-seat operations centre in Chennai, India, which will serve the company’s clients in the UK and global insurance markets.
More than £35m will be invested in the new centre, which will be the company’s tenth and largest facility. The first stage of the development is expected to be ready in 2008, with the recruitment of 1,100 software professionals.
The entire development is set to be complete in three additional phases over the next five years, said Mastek.
Joe Venkataraman, managing director of Mastek’s UK operations said, “The UK insurance industry is significant for Mastek, and overall the region makes up a large proportion of our revenue stream.
“The new facility in Chennai will ensure that we continue to provide enhanced services to our UK customers and also demonstrates our commitment to the UK insurance market.”
The company also said it is building a centre of excellence in Chennai to support mainframe technology skills.
